Popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, well known as Bobrisky, has denied giving the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the sum of N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
The bribery allegation had been levelled against Bobrisky by social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, fondly called VeryDarkMan.
Speaking on the allegation in a statement on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said the Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ola Olukoyede, had constituted a team of investigators to critically look into the matter.
Oyewale said: “To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery.
“The EFCC wishes to assure the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and the result of the findings made public accordingly.
“The Commission is committed to its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration at all times.”
However, Bobrisky, in a post shared on his social media accounts on Wednesday, September 25, said he served his jail term and did not offer money to the EFCC officers.
The controversial celebrity added that the viral voice recording shared on social media by VeryDarkMan was fake.
Bobrisky wrote: “My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet that I paid EFCC 15 million naira, and that I was never in prison… I didn’t pay any EFCC money: [it] is a very big lie. I served my term in full and I came out. Discard any false information.
“Imagine believing someone that came out publicly to tell us that you paid hacker to track someone’s phone which is against the law… can be desperate to do anything at this point. I didn’t give EFCC money, I made a mistake typo in writeup.”
Bobrisky regained freedom from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos State on August 5, 2024, after he was sentenced to six months imprisonment over naira abuse.
The controversial celebrity, who was prosecuted by the EFCC, was sentenced to prison by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on April 12, 2024.
