A former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, on Sunday, disclosed that he made 121 appearances in court while facing charges predicated on phantom fraud allegations against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

Daniel made this disclosure while speaking at the 18th annual anniversary Thanksgiving Service held at Abraham’s Tabernacle Baptist International Worship Centre in Sagamu town of Ogun State.

The two-term Governor recalled that the case took eleven years after he left office, adding that it was the grace of God that vindicated him.

He said that some forces were behind his travails for reasons best known to them.

‘I was arrested by the EFCC, spent two weeks in custody and thereafter arraigned. I appeared 121 times in court and I didn’t miss any of the court days. I didn’t steal, nor snatch wife of anybody, or kill any person’s child,’ he said.

“For eleven years I was under trial, there were all manner of conspiracy. But on 12th of April last year, God did his wonders. So if you see me organizing thanksgiving, it is for God. I am one of the most grateful to God; that’s the essence of thanksgiving. I escaped jail by the grace of God,” Daniel emphasized

The former governor, who is the senatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District of Ogun State in the forthcoming general elections, called on all political gladiators to be united in the interest of the state.

He explained that after his ordeal, he had resolved whatever assumed crisis with everybody that might have offended him and vice versa, disclosing that before his father’s death he mandated him to build a church, which he did.

“All of us, for the sake of our state, we must reconcile and move forward. When I was arrested by EFCC and later secured bail, the first set of people to visit me was the Afeniere group, who attested to my integrity,” he said.

Daniel expressed confidence that Governor Dapo Abiodun will win his re-election bid.

He said he was also sure that he (Daniel) would win, as well as other candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the incumbent Governor had performed creditably to record victory in the coming poll, and advised him to be focused and to ignore distractions.(Adapted/edited report by Penpushing)
