Despite the controversial outcome of the February 25, 2023 presidential poll, which outcome placed Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the third place, thousands of young people in Benin trooped out to accord him heroic reception.

The scene was electric even as the young men and women went into hysteria as Obi touched down in situ at the New Benin Market.

The show of affection, the very warm reception and the exchange of camaraderie and love were writ large. The atmospherics and the nuances of the visitation and rapturous nature of the welcome were so pristine, genuine, not procured or prearranged.

Given the magnitude of the crowd, there was gridlock fir hours as Obi’s vehicle and others in the convoy snaked through the arena.

Obi was in Benin to make his last campaign pitches to Edo State people to vote fir Labour Party’s candidates in the March 18, 2023 State House of Assembly elections.

Obi’s visitation was a homecoming of sorts after his emphatic win of the state in the February 25 presidential poll. He was followed by APC’s Asiwaju Bola Ahmed.

It is expected that there will be an encore on March 18.

Meanwhile, at New Benin Market, Edo State where he campaigned for Labour Party House of Assembly candidates the youths chanted: “Edo nor dey carry last. We are fully Obidient Nothing dey stop us now. Vote Labour Party all the way. As e dey sweet us….”
