The Ijaw National Congress (INC) Central Zone has ushered in a new executive council, with High Royal Highness Moses Theophilus elected as chairman to lead the organisation for the next four years.
The election, held at the INC National Headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, saw Theophilus secure a decisive victory with 175 votes, defeating his opponent, Barrister Uroh Kiani, who garnered 46 votes.
Dr. Atalawei Emmanuel, chairman of the electoral committee, announced the results and commended the delegates for their peaceful conduct throughout the process.
He encouraged those who lost to demonstrate sportsmanship and collaborate with the new leadership.
Other elected officials include Mr. Ayaowei Godwill as Vice Chairman, Onini Nelson Izonebi as Treasurer, and Agbadi Ariwalaba Headman as Auditor.
Several positions were filled unopposed, including High Chief Godwill Selekeowei PhD as Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Egbo as Assistant Secretary, and Garricks Obed as Financial Secretary.
Others include Preye Kingdom Nimizigha as Women Affairs Secretary, Barrister Selekeowei Brown Kirikareye as Publicity Secretary, and Barrister Philemon Kelly Dickson as Legal Adviser.
The immediate past INC Central Zone Chairman, Hon. Doodei Week, praised the electoral committee for ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election.
Similarly, Hon. Ernest E. Akuna, Chairman of the Ogobiri Mein Clan, hailed the election as credible and urged defeated candidates to rally behind the new leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Theophilus expressed gratitude to God for his victory and vowed to work with all stakeholders to advance the interests of the Central Zone and the broader Ijaw nation.
Representing National President Prof. Benjamin Okaba, Alabo Nengi James commended the electoral committee for its impartiality and called on the new executives to lead with inclusivity and magnanimity.
