Nigerian social commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has warned that Nigeria will continue to struggle with insecurity unless urgent reforms are made to the education system, particularly in the northern region.

In a video shared on Monday via his Facebook page, VDM argued that the fight against terrorism remains difficult because many young people in the North lack access to quality schooling.

He noted that this absence of formal education leaves thousands vulnerable to recruitment by extremist groups.

“The only solution to terrorism is to educate the Northerners,” VDM said, emphasizing that a government willing to dedicate significant resources and time to compulsory education in the North would make major strides in tackling insecurity.

He added that knowledge could help redirect many youths from violent activities.

VDM also highlighted the ongoing manipulation of uneducated youths by a few educated individuals, stressing that without education, terrorism and violence would continue to thrive.

He noted that idleness and lack of opportunities among northern youths make it easy for extremist groups to recruit them.

“If I want to start terrorism today, I will go to Maiduguri, Zamfara, or somewhere in the North.

“There are many young people on the streets who can easily be mobilized,” he explained.

The social critic’s remarks have sparked widespread discussions online, with many Nigerians raising concerns about regional disparities in education and their impact on national security.
