The chartered jet was not to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Waziri Atiku Abubakar in the campaign at Uyo.

THE CONCLAVE learnt that the jet was actually heading back to Abuja.

Some prominent politicians in the 12-seater jet were said to be returning to Abuja to attend some meetings.

THE CONCLAVE reports that four PDP leaders were on board, namely Governor Amimu Tambuwal, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Liyel Imoke and Senator Ehigie Uzamere.

Reports said that the politicians were seated in the jet  oblivious of what was going on outside in the engine of the plane.

The door to the plane could not be immediately opened for them to disembark.

Besides, care, as learnt, was being taken to guard against the passengers jumping out while the engine was still running.

Anyone who jumps out, according to those knowledgeable with aviation safety rules, in that kind of circumstances, could get sucked in by the forceful wind of the propeller engine.

The Indian Pilot was said to have tried to restart the engine after it reportedly went off. The engine was said to have again emitted a huge fire, making a loud sound with the fire extinguishing by itself and the engine stopping instantly.

The passengers were quietly and carefully evacuated.

That was how tragedy was reportedly averted in one of the aircraft in the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign that caught fire in Anambra state shortly after two of the aircraft took off at the Anambra State International Airport.

Though the incident happened last Thursday December 15, 2022, it came to public knowledge only today, Monday, December 19.
