The Senate on Monday 21st December 2020 passed 2021 Appropriation Bill.
The development followed the presentation of the report of the Senate Committee on Appropriation by Senator Barau Jibrin
Senator Jibrin moved that the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Appropriations on the 2021 Appropriation Bill, 2020 (SB. 523) and it was seconded by Senator Stella Oduah.
“Our infrastructure decay has been on the increase. I am very much impressed with the way and how this Budget has addressed our problems. I want to support and to urge my dear colleagues that we pass this budget.” – Senator stella Oduah
“I support the passage of the 2021 budget. I think this Budget should be unanimously passed by this Senate.” – Senator Gabriel Suswam
“I want to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for this Budget and also my dear colleagues. The 2021 Appropriation Bill as enumerated by Senator Barau Jibrin, is coming on the right path. Looking at what has been appropriated to the Ministry of Defense, I believe that the Armed Forces, what they need has been considered in this Budget
and if there is no security in this country, the whole of this budget is as good as nothing. This is a challenge to the
Armed Forces that this National Assembly has done the needful. This Appropriation Act also has considered the youth. There is also need for us to press more on security. This should not be business as usual else the security lapses will continue. I will want to commend the National Assembly for taking this most important aspect of our national life to Budget and Appropriate such huge amount of money to Ministry of Defense which is in line with our desire that this country is supposed to be safe.” Senator Sani Musa
Senate resolved into Committee of Supply to consider the report of the Committee on Appropriations on the
2021 Appropriation Bill, 2020 (SB. 523)
Senate reverted to Plenary to report progress.
2021 Appropriation Bill, 2020 (SB. 523) was read the THIRD time and PASSED.
In his remark, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan said “Let me first of all congratulate all of us for working so hard to ensure that we meet the deadline of passing the 2021
Budget before we go on Christmas break. Let me also congratulate the House of Representatives, our counterpart who are doing the same thing like we are doing here. Let me also commend the Executive like they did last year that no Head of Department, Ministry or Agency should travel out of the country without defending their budget. For Nigerians, this Budget that has been passed is to ensure that our economy is supported fully through public expenditure.”
