The House of Representatives public accounts committee has frowned at the reckless refusal by the Management and deliberate refusal by Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to render its audited accounts for the past five years (2005 – 2019).

This was disclosed in the report of the committee on “deliberate and reckless refusal by ministries, departments and agencies of government to render audited accounts for the period 2014-2018 to the Auditor General for the federation.”

According to the report signed by the Committee Chairman, Rep. Oluwole Oke and the Clerk Ahmadu M. Jatau, “recklessness and deliberate refusal are violations of Section 85 (3) (b) of the 1999 Constitution.”

The committee further stated that all those in Office that were responsible should be disciplined and referred to the EFCC in line with Financial Regulation 3129 of 2009.

“The Agency only rendered 2014 audited account to the Auditor General for the past 5 years and is yet to remit its 2015 – 2018 audited accounts.

“Committee frowned at the Management of the Agency for this recklessness, seeing the humongous revenue being generated by it from the coastal lines, yet it refused to be audited.

“The Committee invited the Hon. Minister for State on Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Rukayat Saraki with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and other Directors of the Agency to the Hearing to give reasons for the non-rendition of the accounts by the Director General in compliance with Section 20 of the Procurement Act, 2007 and FR. No. 3129 to the Auditor General’s Office,” the report read.
