Hon. George Iwe-Ebiya, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Yenagoa Constituency 3, has called for fairness and equity in the ongoing aspirants’ screening, urging stakeholders to address the prolonged marginalization of Biseni Ward 13.

Speaking with journalists at Domaris Hotel in Yenagoa during the screening exercise, Iwe-Ebiya lamented that since the return of democracy in 1999, no person from Ward 13 has ever represented the constituency in the state assembly.

He pointed out that Ward 12 has produced two representatives — Hon. David Obuma for four years and Hon. Franklin for eight years — while Zarama has been represented by Hon. Gentle Emelah for eight years.

“It is only fair and moral that the seat now rotates to Ward 13 in the spirit of equity and balanced representation,” Iwe-Ebiya declared.

Hon. George, who recently resigned as Special Assistant to Governor Douye Diri on General Duties to pursue his legislative ambition, said he possesses the requisite legislative and administrative experience to deliver quality representation.

“I served as Legislative Aide to former member Hon. Gentle Emelah for six years from 2011 and have consistently supported various House of Assembly members,” he stated.

Iwe-Ebiya promised to sponsor laws and policies that would drive growth and development in the constituency if elected.

He described himself as a service-oriented leader and a strong advocate for equity, pledging to bridge the gap between the people and their leaders.

He commended the screening committee for a thorough exercise and appealed to them to consider the issue of marginalisation of Ward 13.

The APC aspirant also urged fellow contestants and stakeholders, particularly those from Ward 12, to embrace unity and act as their “brother’s keeper” for the sake of democracy and grassroots development.

“Politics should not divide us but rather foster development at the grassroots level,” he added.
