The decision to re-establish air transportation to Hadejia in Jigawa State by the Federal Government is not just for show, but for the significant security and economic benefits it offers.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, who emphasized that the airport would serve as a means of transporting agricultural produce from Jigawa and neighboring states to different parts of the country and beyond, as well as tackling the issue of insecurity in the northern region.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Hadejia Airport took place on Thursday, where Sirika explained that the Buhari administration had committed substantial resources to the project in recognition of aviation’s critical role in enhancing the country’s security architecture.

The initiative aims to promote the free movement of people and goods, while also strengthening the country’s economy and promoting food security by connecting markets, people, and cultures.

According to the Minister, Hadejia’s rich culture, aviation, and market made it an essential location for air transportation, and leaving it out of the map where it could be accessed through air transportation was unthinkable.

The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation is executing the project, which has a completion period of 18 months and will cost N7.48bn.
