Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Jumai Kefas, the mother of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, and her daughter, Atsi Kefas.
It was gathered that the incident occurred along Kente Road in the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
The attack was confirmed by the Chairman of Wukari LGA, Dauda Samaila Agbu, on Thursday.
Agbu described the incident as “deeply troubling”, saying Atsi was injured by a gunshot during the attack.
The chairman said: “She was first treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being transferred to Abuja for further medical attention.
“Her condition was stabilised before she was airlifted.”
Agbu called for calm among residents and assured them that steps were being taken to apprehend the assailants.
The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, Usman Abdullahi, also confirmed the incident.
Abdullahi, who classified the event as an armed robbery, however, did not confirm any connection between the victims and the governor.
