Gunmen have torched the country home of President General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and former Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States of America and Israel, Professor George Obiozor ablaze.
Prof George hails from Awo-Omama in Oru East local government area of Imo State.
Awo-omama is a neighbouring community to Omuma where Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, hails from.
The governor’s country home was also set ablaze sometime last year by gunmen.
Houses of prominent Imo people, including traditional rulers, have been burnt down in recent times as insecurity spikes in the heartland of Igbo.
Those behind the arson and their motives have yet to be identified.
The gunmen invaded the building in the early hours of Saturday.
Prof Obiozor was not in the house when as at the time of the attack.
He has been abroad on medical vacation for sometime now but some sources say he has come back and is in Enugu.
