● Two officers injured as attackers scale fence, beat guards and escape through bushland

Gunmen attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, passport office in Ogbomoso on Tuesday night, injuring two officers and making away with a G3 rifle, ammunition and other valuables, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed.

Police spokesperson SP Ayanlade Olayinka said the officer in charge raised an alarm at about 8:45pm after armed men invaded the premises.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that about five assailants scaled the rear perimeter fence of the facility, which borders a vast bushland, before attacking two immigration officers on night duty,” Olayinka stated Wednesday.

The attackers beat the officers with sticks and other weapons before carting away a G3 rifle assigned to the office, its ammunition, a mobile phone, generating set and a motorcycle battery. They escaped through the same route.

The injured officers received medical attention and are in stable condition.

Olayinka said surveillance and tactical teams have intensified operations around the area, combing adjoining bushes and escape routes to apprehend the perpetrators and recover stolen items. Intelligence assets and informants have been activated.

Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga and the NIS state comptroller have constituted a joint task team to strengthen coordination and track those involved. Olugbenga directed all operational and intelligence units to deploy every available resource to arrest the attackers.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, assuring that information would be treated confidentially.
