Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025, attacked the country home of former Minister of Sports, Damishi Sango, in Dalwal village, Riyom Local Council of Plateau State.
One person was confirmed dead, and three others were said to have been seriously injured in the attack.
According to a community source, the attack led to the death of a female relative of the ex-minister, while one of those injured is his police escort.
“The bandits attacked the residence of Chief Damishi Sango in Dalwal village around 1:00 a.m. this morning, but we heard they started attacking the community from about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday night,” the source said.
“When they got to the chief’s house, they began shooting sporadically. During the assault, one of his female relations was killed, while three other people, including his police orderly, Inspector Walba Go Tom, from the Special Protection Unit Base 4, Makurdi, attached to the former minister, sustained gunshot wounds.
“His service rifle, an assault weapon with a breach number, was taken away by the attackers. The female relative of the former minister died while receiving treatment at Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, while the police officer is currently hospitalised and responding to treatment,” the source added.
