Gunmen abduct female student, invade private university hostel

Gunmen have abducted a female student of the Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River State.

The school authorities, in a statement by the Acting Registrar of the institution, Mrs Ughas Ngozi, confirmed the incident, which occurred around 8pm on Tuesday.

The statement said “the university Management is on top of events and the security agencies are in control of the situation. All students and staff are please requested to remain calm and go about their normal duties.”

It also warned that the public should kindly desist from circulating false information.

Multiple sources confirmed the affected students were returning from their night reading class, towards the hostel when the gunmen accosted and abducted one of them.

Others who escaped from the attack sustained various degrees of injuries.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, had drafted the anti- kidnapping, anti-cultism and dragon units of the Force to the area to forestall breakdown of law and order and secure the release of the kidnap victim. (The Nation)
