The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is expected to deliver judgment on Friday in the suit filed by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola challenging the election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

It would be recalled that the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, had dragged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke through the tribunal, having been defeated in the July16, 2022 gubernatorial election.

The Secretary to the tribunal, David Mike, confirmed the development on Tuesday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, in a notice sent to the parties, obtained by our Correspondent.

Parties involved in the suit confirmed the tribunal communicated the date to them on Tuesday even as the notice has heightened anxiety in different quarters.

Adeleke scored 403,371 votes to defeat Oyetola, who polled 375,027.

Oyetola, the immediate past Governor Governor of the state is hinging his case on alleged election rigging by over voting, infractions in some polling units, and the authenticity of the WAEC certificate presented by the governor Adeleke, among other grounds.

The three-man panel led by Justice Tertse Kume had two weeks ago entertained the final addresses of counsel to the plaintiff, the first respondent – the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 2nd respondent – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the third respondent – Governor Adeleke.

According to Nigeria’s electoral laws, the verdict of the tribunal may be challenged up to the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had enjoined all the members of the party in the state to embark on fasting and prayer session in order to seek the favour of God in the governorship election litigation in which judgment will be pronounced this week’s Friday.

The Acting State Chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, who made this known in Osogbo, said it was necessary for the party to resort to supplications after having effected everything legally allowed at the tribunal for the retrieval of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s stolen mandate in the July 16, 2022 governorship election.

Lawal reminded the members and supporters of the party that everything needed prayer for the attainment of perfection and as a potent insulation against the powers and principalities of the underworld.

The Acting State APC chairman disclosed that he believed in the efficacy of prayers and that there were no challenges that were greater than the powers of prayers.
