Group slams ‘Malicious’ suspension of Akpabio aide Eseme Eyiboh over pro-Tinubu rally
Hon Eseme Eyiboh

A grassroots political group has rejected the purported suspension of Rt. Hon. Eseme Eyiboh from the All Progressives Congress, describing the move as “unreasonable, indefensible and of no effect.”

Ward Nine New Era, a political pressure group in Esit Eket Local Government Area, issued the rebuke on Friday after Mr. Johnny Nsoh, claiming to act for the APC Ward 9 Executives, announced Eyiboh’s suspension over alleged anti-party activity.

Eyiboh, a former House of Representatives member and spokesperson, serves as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He is also a foundation member of the APC.

His alleged “offence” was convening a Stakeholders’ Town Hall Meeting in Esit Eket on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

The meeting, attended by political leaders and non-partisan indigenes, declared support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Ekong Sampson, and House of Representatives member Hon. Okpolupm Ikpong Etteh.

On Thursday, Nsoh published a statement on social media announcing Eyiboh’s suspension from the party, accusing him of anti-party conduct.

Ward Nine New Era swiftly dismissed the action.

In a statement signed by former Ward 9 Councillors and APC chieftains Hon. Okon Bassey Iyanam and Hon. Okon Edoho, the group questioned the legitimacy of the suspension and the authority of those behind it.

“How can mobilising community stakeholders in support of President Tinubu, Senator Akpabio, Pastor Umo Eno, and other APC National Assembly members be termed anti-party activity?” the group asked.

It further queried the role of Ward 9 Executives in a local government-wide stakeholders’ meeting, noting that Eyiboh was not the only APC member present.

The group also challenged the legal standing of the Ward 9 and Esit Eket Chapter executives, arguing that the APC has not published, constituted, or inaugurated any ward or chapter executives nationwide.

“Where do they derive the standing to query and discipline APC members?” it asked.

Ward Nine New Era insisted that the APC, as a “creature of law,” cannot discipline members without following its constitution and the principle of fair hearing.

The group declared the purported suspension “null and void” and urged loyal APC members in Esit Eket to disregard it entirely.

Eyiboh is a reform-minded grassroots mobiliser and longtime party stalwart in Akwa Ibom State.
