A group known as North Central Forum of concerned citizens has called on patriotic Nigerians, including party members and supporters, friends and well-wishers to join in the quest for the successful emergence of Senator Dr George Akume as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in the forthcoming national convention of the party.
The group in a statement by its chairman, Dr Weng Davou Challom and Secretary, Dr Ramalan Yusuf said Senator Dr George Akume “who is widely and well acknowledged in all the nooks and crannies of the country as a detribalized Nigerian has demonstrated huge capacity, wisdom and commitment to the sanctity of democratic growth and sustainability in Nigeria since his proactive involvement and participation in politics, leadership and governance in Nigeria.”
The group added that as the third democratic governor of Benue State in the fourth republic in Nigeria, Senator Akume’s rare courage and commitment to sustaining the legacies of democracy were largely demonstrated through his active crusade against the illicit tenure elongation which was harboured by a former sitting President of Nigeria.

As the third democratic governor of Benue State under the fourth republic in Nigeria, Senator Akume’s rare courage and commitment to sustaining the legacies of democracy was largely demonstrated through his active crusade against the illicit tenure elongation which was harboured by a former sitting President of Nigeria . His patriotic struggle against all odds as a democrat yielded positive result as the third term agenda did not sail through under Nigeria’s democracy and constitution.
As a charismatic leader, Senator Dr. George Akume is an all accommodating party leader who treats humanity with kindness, humility, selflessness,openness and tolerance,devoid of partisan contradictions and persuasions. According to a former Deputy Senate President of Nigerian Senate,Senator Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu(2019)he stated that Senator Akume is a great man with the heart of gold. He is God-fearing and believes in the cause of human positivism. He is a true leader”.
As an incorruptible and selfless democratic leader,Senator George Akume is one political leader that has never been found wanting in his service to humanity and society on issues of one’s personal interest over and above that of his people. This is a politician who is not into the business of taking public funds for his personal advancement. This is a politician who believes in giving to the needy deriving from the blessings of God upon his life. This is a politician who is accessible to all, regardless of age,status, sex,class,religion or ethnicity.
As a beacon of political mobilization and appreciation in the hearts of the people,Senator Dr. George Akume has served Nigerians in different political capacities based on his proven integrity, trust and confidence to do more for human development. As a former Governor of Benue State, Senator Akume has groomed top politicians of Benue origin and the outside society, these include,serving and former governors,senators, ministers house of representative members, chairmen of local government councils, career ambassadors, among others. This is addition to his pragmatic leadership of infrastructural transformation and legacies bequeathed to Nigerians and particularly the good people of Benue State.
As a former Chairman Of Northern Governors’ Forum,Senator Dr. George Akume served Nigerians in line with the principles and agenda kid the the Late Sardauna of Sokoto,Sir Ahmadu Bello, while promoting the cause of national unity,integration, peace and stability in Nigeria. This principally necessitated his abhorrence to Obasanjo’s third term agenda under which would have caused untold constitutional crises and political instability in Nigeria. Critics have argued that this singular factor propelled the stiff opposition that Senator George Akume got from Former President Obasanjo when Senator Akume contested for the post of President of the Senate in 2007.
It is historic that in the history of Nigeria’s fourth republic,one person who successfully delivered opposition into a ruling party in Benue State and Nigeria at large is Senator Dr. George Akume. As Minority Leader of the Senate in 2011,Senator George Akume wrestled leadership from the stronghold of the PDP to APC 2015. This sagacious demonstration of political mobilization and strength by Senator Akume clearly indicates proven ability to do more.
As one of the immeasurable foundation fathers of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Akume, who believes absolutely in the visionary leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR took the challenge to spearhead as vice chairman of the Buhari Presidential campaign team in Northern Nigeria. A task he accomplished with deep perfection in Benue State, with a very narrow margin against the APC in the presidential election,largely necessitated by brazen rigging of votes against the APC. However, President Muhammadu Buhari came out victoriously.
As a serving Minister of Special Duties And Inter-Governmental Affairs in the federal executive council, Senator George Akume has left no stone unturned in accentuating the vision and mission of Mr. President to lift over 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
So far, his proven ability and commitment to the Nigerian project under President Muhammadu Buhari ,GCFR has led to multi sectoral policies, programmes and projects carried out by the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
We therefore, call on all well meaning party members of the APC and Nigerians to support our hope and prayers for Senator Dr. George Akume,FNIM as the next National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC)
Senator George Akume is widely traveled with incredible exposure, experience and clout to bear on the effective leadership of the APC.
