The constituents of the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara have dismissed the insinuations making the rounds that the lawmaker was engaged in anti-party activities.
Betare is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Borno State.
Addressing news men in Abuja, the constituents, under the umbrella of “Biu Forum,” said that the allegations existed only in the imagination of the accusers and such should be disregarded by party members and the general public.
The insinuations followed the absence of the lawmaker at the recent inauguration of the state chapter of APC campaign council.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum, its secretary and spokesman, Alhaji Kachalla Mohammed Umar, explained that the exigences of the office of Betara who represents Biu/Bayo/Shani Federal Constituency, made him miss the inauguration but fully mobilized thousands of party supporters to the ceremony.
He further said that the lawmaker remained the pride of the constituency, stressing that he had attracted more projects that anyone in the area.
According to him, “for someone or situation to bring about anti-party statement, on the contrary, it is not acceptable. We want to reiterate our stand that for the past 20 years, our constituency never witnessed such developmental projects which are personally credited to Hon. Betara.
“So, we just want the general public to know our position that we are solidly behind him. Though in a democracy, everybody is entitled to his opinion, we feel it is an opinion of somebody, somewhere, somehow. The general public should disregard such situation and the true position is that Hon. Betara is a staunch member of APC, a mobilizer, developmental individual that cares much about his people than he himself. This is our stand.
“It was the inauguration of APC state campaign council. He was not present due to exigences of his office. You know he is the chairman, Appropriation Committee (of the House). Along the line, which is human, it was misconstrued that he does not have interest or that he intentionally refused to attend. That is the bone of contention. But later on, we discovered that it was not so. It was on the contrary. Despite his absence, he mobilized thousands of supporters to the ceremony
“For avoidance of doubt, it was the exigences of his office, that is why he could not attend. Others want to cash on it to pull him down”.
The Forum urged party members in the state to keep off from issues that were capable of causing disunity among party members ahead of the general elections in the interest of all and sundry
The Forum assured of total victory for all the APC candidates in the coming elections with the full support of Hon. Betara whom they described as a role model to other politicians in the state.
