Group condemns attack in Owo church, sympathises with victims

A socio-political group, Yoruba Ronu, has condemned the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.

The group said the attack and killing of some of the congregation who were worshiping at the church were mindless.

A statement signed by the Steve Bayode, Director, Communications of Yorubu Ronu Group said Prince Diran Iyantan, the Chairman, was extremely saddened after seeing the footages of the gruesome killing and slain bodies of children and women in their pool of blood.

The statement quoted Prince Iyantan as saying that it was an attack too many, and advised that such occurrences must be stopped in the Southwest.

“The major concern is to ensure the survival of those injured in the reckless attack by providing for their adequate medical care and follow-up on post trauma experience that many of them will suffer later, especially, the children who survived the killing.”

The chairman sympathised with the victims of the church shooting and prayed for the repose of their soul and forgiveness of their sins as they all died in the service and worship of the Lord, the almighty God.

Iyantan emphasised that all hands must be on deck to ensure that all the perpetrators of the hideous killing do not go unpunished.

He called on all the security apparatus in the country to go after the murderers and ensured they are brought to justice.

Iyantan sympathised with the governor and the people of Ondo State over the loss.

He commended the governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for acting swiftly by returning to the State from Abuja where he has gone for the national convention of APC when the incident occurred.

“Akeredolu is a great leader who is very conscious of the welfare and security of his people. If for any reason, this action was carried out so as to deter him of his act of security consciousness in the State, as Ondo State is known to be a very secured and peaceful haven to do business, live and sleep with your two eyes closed.

“These murderers have failed as this will only resolved it in the governor to be more determined in his fight against bandits, criminals, and all forms of terrorism in the state’’.

Prince Iyantan commended the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibajo for his visit, state governors, political leaders and others who visited Owo to sympathise with the victims’ families and those injured in the shooting.

He noted, particularly, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for coming to Ondo State from the APC convention in Abuja where he is a leading aspirant for the presidential ticket of the party.

He praised Asiwaju’s generous donation of N75 million to the victims’ families and the church, saying it will serve as a kind of succour to them in moving forward from the ugly and unwarranted experience.
