The Caretaker Chairman of a group known as “Justice Forum” comprising of leaders of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch of NUPENG, South South Zone, Comrade Praise Ogidi-King on behalf of his group has expressed support for the newly elected National Executive President of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti.

Comrade Ogidi-King hailed the leaders and the ranks and file of the Union for their overwhelming support for Oladiti across all the four Zones and Branches of the Union. He affirmed that the electoral victory which made the seasoned Unionist to emerge unopposed as the President was free, fair, credible and peaceful.

Highlighting Oladiti’s previous positions as National Trustee of NUPENG and as former National Chairman of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch of NUPENG, Ogidi-King noted that his leadership was marked by successful negotiations for improved working conditions and strategic advocacy for stability and fairness in the energy sector.

He also cited a bold and landmark Executive Order and memo issued by the President on the day his predecessor, Comrade Williams Akporeha officially handed over to him the baton of leadership at the Union’s Secretariat in Jibowu, Lagos.

Ogidi-King added that the Executive Order was a significant shift in the life of the Union which had made the General Secretary Afolabi Olawale whom he described as “enfant terrible” to go on indefinite leave, a move that could possibly lead to his final exit from NUPENG.

He stated that the appointment of Comrade Otitie Onohwohwo as the acting General Secretary showed that the new President was ready to put the Union on the right track, while correcting the many wrongs of previous administrations.

“The appointment of Comrade Otitie Onohwohwo as the acting General Secretary of NUPENG is a necessary and commendable step toward strengthening NUPENG and enhancing unity, love, cooperation, and most importantly, administrative balance; as the National Executive President and the General Secretary of the Union cannot come from the same city, state of origin and same Lagos Zone.

“It is also a move designed to set the Union into becoming hub of innovation and strategic policy implementation that will champion the interest of members and staff and also recalling aggrieved members and uniting them with the centre under the atmosphere of peace to engender prosperity and progress.

“Now the world is convinced that Comrade Oladiti is ready to rid the system of unproductive, pugnacious and cantankerous elements, and as well correct other form of recruitment error and more importantly to directly confront the enfant terrible, Afolabi Olawale who has been advised to go on an indefinite leave so that the Union can have a breather.

“What we are currently seeing has clearly shown that Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti’s leadership and responsiveness is timely and impressively aligning with the spirit and intent of his inaugural speech which is to make the Union great again, close all gaps and snags.

“Another reliable source confirmed that amongst the topmost priorities in Comrade Oladiti’s agenda is to resolve the issues of the aggrieved members of the PTD Branch and the Parent body, and to withdraw and settle out of Court all ongoing and pending court cases within his first 100 days in office, this is quite commendable. Posterity will indeed be kind to him.

“It is also important to emphasize that the successful conduct of the Union’s emergency National Executive Council held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 in Lagos apparently set the tone for coordination, risk mitigation, and strategic alignment for the progress of the Union. Comrade Oladiti has proven that he is not just competent but determined to raise the bar and put the Union in its place of pride in every sphere.

“On this note, on behalf of the Justice Forum we sincerely extend our warmest congratulations once more to the National Executive President of NUPENG on his well-deserved election, and we pray that God should grant him good health, sound mind, and wisdom to take the Union to lofty heights.

“Comrade Oladiti’s elevation is a clear reflection of his proven dedication to advancing the rights and welfare of Nigerian Oil and Gas workers and it is our prayer that he will succeed,” Ogidi-King stated.
