Aliyu Ahmed Sokoto of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the governorship election in Sokoto State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC standard-bearer polled a total 453,661 votes to defeat his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Saidu, who scored 404,632.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal failed to deliver the State to the PDP.
Recall that the PDP and the APC have always been in keen contests for power in Sokoto State.
Tambuwsl led the PDP charge in the guber poll four years ago against the APC on the watch of a former governor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako.
Tambuwal was only able to defeat the APC candidate in the poll with about 300 votes.
With Tambuwal not being the one on the ballot in the March 18 guber poll, it became much easier for Wammako’s APC to rout the PDP.
