Osun State governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has commended the social intervention programme of the federal government, describing it as impacting positively on the lives of less privileged citizens across the country.
Governor Oyetola made this commendation on the occasion of the flag-iff of the Federal Government Rural Cash Grant, On-boarding of Independent Monitor NSIP (2nd Batch) and flag-off of digitized payment system for Conditional Cash Transfer Programme at Aurora Conference Centre, Osogbo, Osun State capital.
Governor Oyetola informed that the programmes comprising 14 different social intervention initiatives were specifically aimed at alleviating the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
Governor Oyetola stated that the programmes have clearly portrayed the federal government as a responsible and responsive administration which has been equally demonstrated by his administration such as health insurance scheme, school feeding, food support scheme as well as empowering women and youths irrespective of ethnic, political or religion affiliation across the Osun state.
The Osun State governor, who was highly elated at the programme, reiterated his administration’s efforts in making life bearable for all citizens in the state through his various people oriented programmes, saying he would not relent.
Governor Oyetola used the medium to admonished the beneficiaries of the grants to use it judiciously for the purpose meant for while urging them to demonstrate their unalloyed support to him come July 16 governorship election with an assurance that he would not let them down in all ramifications.
In her remarks, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Developments, Hadjia Sadiya Umar, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Nasir Sanni Gwarso, said that the social intervention programmes introduced in 2016 has impacted positively on the lives of over twelve million house holds with Osun State being the major beneficiaries in line with the vision of Governor Oyetola’s various welfare policies being demonstrated across the state.
Dr Gwarso, noted that President Muhammadu Buhari has graciously approved the extension of the programmes in meeting its objective of lifting over one hundred million Nigerians out of poverty.
The National Coordinator of the programmes, Umar Bindir (PhD), in his own remarks, commended Oyetola for giving an enabling environment for the success of the programmes that has favourably changed the lives of many across the state.
He urged other governors in the country to emulate Governor Oyetola in turning around the fortunes of the entire state.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Special Adviser to Governor Oyetola on Social Intervention Programmes-NSIP, Alhaji Lukman Abimbola Bello, appreciated Governor’s efforts and complete support to the vulnerable people in the state.
According to Bello, “I am not surprised that these three important national events holds here in Osun state, for a reason not far fetched as Osun is the architect of Social Intervention/Social Protections Programmes which remains the overall best sustainer of intervention programs in the country today.
“Similarly, I am highly elated to inform you all that efforts of Governor Oyetola in transforming the entire state cannot be over emphasised as he has been doing well towards the betterment of the people adequately”
High point of the occasion was the presentation of cash grants to the beneficiaries drawn from across the state by Governor Oyetola in flagging off the second phase of the cash grant to vulnerable groups in Osun State.
Dignitaries present at the occasion were Lagos state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwolu, Kano state Governor, Alhaji Abdulai Gaduje, the wife of the governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare, the Deputy Governor, Mr Benedict Alabi, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oyefunke Alabi, former Deputy Governor, Mrs Grace Titilaoye Ponle, the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, among others.
