Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, on Friday, inaugurated a mammogram machine at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti, urging women to take advantage of it for early detection of cancer.
The governor said that the machine would aid early detection of cancer and enable women in the state to live a more healthy life and reduce the high rate of breast cancer.
Oyebanji, who declared that his administration is committed to improving health care, said that the 11 general hospitals across the state were undergoing comprehensive renovation to enhance quality healthcare to all residents.
He said that the machine at the Adunni Olayinka Women Diagnostic Centre was a crucial tool in the early diagnosis and treatment of the dreaded disease, urging regular screening.
Earlier in his remarks, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, commended the governor for being very passionate about the welfare of the citizens of the state.
Alausa said that Oyebanji was the first governor to reach out to him after he assumed office as the Minister of State for Health to solicit his support for Ekiti people.
He said the governor’s giant strides in advancing the health sector in the state was in line with President Tinubu led-federal government’s determinations to provide excellent healthcare facilities to all Nigerians.
While noting that breast cancer ranked among the most prevalent scourge affecting women, the minister called on women across the state to make use of the mammogram machine to enable early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, said the new mammogram machine would save countless lives through early detection of breast cancer.
He assured the public of the safety and accuracy of the procedure.
Present at the event were Dr Olayemi Oyebanji wife of the governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, the deputy governor, Speaker, Ekiti House of Assembly, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye, and Secretary to Ekiti State Government, Dr (Mrs) Habibat Adubiaro.
Others are members of the State House of Assembly, State Executive Council,
Chairman, Ekiti Council of traditional rulers, Oba Ayorinde Faboro, healthcare professionals, market women, among others.
