He said APC Committee on True Federalism proposed significant devolution of powers between the national government and the 36 States, and recommended devolution of responsibilities between the States and Local Governments depending on local circumstances, culture, capacity and capability.
“I had the privilege of chairing the APC Committee on True Federalism with membership across the political and demographic spectrum to lay out our party’s roadmap for our nation’s greatness”. He noted.
He pointed out that, the committee made efforts to accelerate the implementation of its recommendations by producing draft bills that incorporate the recommendations either as proposed amendments to Constitution or national laws.
Governor El-rufai also pay tribute to the vision of the six governors of the northern states who decided in 1970 to establish the centre, that has become a research centre of international repute.
According to him, they chose to honour the memory and service of the only Premier of the Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, on the grounds of his official residence.
Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Namadi Sambo said Arewa house remained one of the centre that bring together different ethic groups for peace and development.
Alhaji Namadi Sambo appealed to the Nigerian youths to exercise restraint while they demand for an end to alleged police brutality.
He urged them to remained law abiding while the federal government addresses their grievances with urgency that it deserved.
The Chairman of the Governors Forum and Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi thanked the leadership of Arewa House for inviting him to speak at the golden jubilee.
He acknowledged the wonderful work of Arewa House in the last fifty years by mobilizing and interpreting history, stressing that, it has indeed built a great history for itself.
