Gombe State University has launched an investigation after a day-old baby boy was found in one of its female hostels on Friday.
University Public Relations Officer Napthali Hadu confirmed the incident in a statement, calling it disturbing and a breach of the institution’s regulations.
Hadu said authorities immediately began an inquiry to identify those connected to the matter and will take appropriate action once the investigation concludes. He described the case as a serious violation of student conduct rules.
The newborn has been taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for medical care.
The university has restricted movement within the female hostel as part of the investigation.
