Outgoing Goldman Sachs general counsel Kathy Ruemmler was paid $25mn in 2025, the bank disclosed on Friday, ahead of her departure later this year following revelations about her ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Ruemmler’s pay rose 11 per cent from $22.5mn the prior year and comes after profits at Goldman grew 20 per cent to $17.2bn. She earned $1.5mn in base salary and a $23.5mn bonus.

Goldman, in a filing ahead of its annual meeting, said Ruemmler “continued to serve as a key advisor to the bank’s leadership during 2025, providing exceptional judgment and advice across a broad range of legal, risk management, regulatory and people matters”.

Ruemmler said last month that she planned to leave Goldman at the end of June after the release of thousands of emails she exchanged with Epstein between 2014 and 2019 while she was a partner at law firm Latham & Watkins.

Ruemmler, who joined Goldman in 2020 and was previously White House counsel in the Obama administration, told the FT at the time that the issue had become a “distraction”.

She has not been accused of any wrongdoing. Goldman chief David Solomon said afterwards that he had “reluctantly accepted” Ruemmler’s resignation.

Goldman had previously disclosed that Solomon’s pay for last year rose 21 per cent to $47mn, the biggest pay packet among Wall Street bank chief executives.

Goldman president John Waldron, who is widely viewed as the favourite to succeed Solomon as CEO, earned $45mn in 2025, more than the $43mn paid to longstanding JPMorgan Chase boss Jamie Dimon.

Chief financial officer Denis Coleman earned $31mn last year, up from $27mn. Goldman paid John Rogers, its veteran secretary to the board of directors, $18.5mn, up from $16mn.
