GOC calls for strategies to outsmart adversaries, opens 6 Division operations planning cadre

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has emphasized the need for the military to continuously evolve strategies and methodologies to maintain superiority over adversaries.

He made this statement while inaugurating the 6 Division Operations Planning Cadre, a four-day training event at the Python Officers Mess in Port Harcourt Barracks.

The cadre, themed “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership through Effective Operations Planning and Capacity Development,” is designed for officers of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and below.

Addressing the attendees, Major General Abdussalam expressed optimism that the event would serve as a platform for participants and resource persons to exchange ideas and make significant contributions to operational planning.

He highlighted Nigeria’s contemporary security challenges, describing them as complex, multidimensional, and often transnational. In response, the GOC called for the increased integration of technology into military operations, stressing the importance of innovation and adaptability in overcoming these challenges.

He noted that the cadre would help the military address operational and administrative issues impacting the Nigerian Army’s engagements across various theatres.

Major General Abdussalam also stressed the importance of developing decision-making skills among participants, enabling them to respond swiftly and effectively in high-pressure situations.

He reminded attendees that modern warfare has extended beyond traditional battlefields, now incorporating cyberspace and information warfare. He urged officers to understand and harness technology to enhance operational effectiveness and achieve mission success.

The GOC further stated that the planning cadre would foster inter-service cooperation, essential for harnessing the full potential of technology in joint operations.

He stressed that military operations today require collaboration across multiple dimensions and partners to succeed.

The event featured lectures and practical sessions with a keynote presentation by Brigadier General Ibekunle Daniel (retd). Participants were drawn from formations and units within the 6 Division’s area of responsibility, as well as representatives from the Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force.
