Miss Freda Arnong, a staff member of the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, has died after she was reportedly abducted and assaulted under suspicious circumstances while on her way to Transcorp Junction in the Federal Capital Territory.
A report by security analyst, Zagazola Makama, said that the incident occurred on July 1, 2025, about 7:00 p.m., when the victim boarded a taxi already occupied by four unidentified men.
He quoted ources close to the Ghanaian mission to have said the vehicle diverted from the agreed route, and the victim was later found in critical condition on Airport Road by a good Samaritan, who rushed her to the National Hospital, Abuja.
The sources, according to Zagazola Makama, said that a good Samaritan found the victim and rushed her to the National Hospital, Abuja, for medical treatment.
Unfortunately, despite efforts to save her, on July 7 about 1:52 p.m., the victim was confirmed dead as a result of injuries sustained during the attack.
The remains of the late diplomat have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
It was further reported that inquiries into the incident have commenced by the detectives from the FCT command’s Criminal Investigation Department and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the assailants
The diplomatic community in Abuja has expressed concerns over the incident and is closely monitoring developments.
Miss Arnong was described by colleagues as dedicated and compassionate, and her death has left staff members at the High Commission and her loved ones deeply shaken.
