The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has emphasized that professionalism and military competence are essential for operational success.
According to Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, General Abdussalam made this statement during the 63 Brigade and 3 Battalion Combined West African Social Activities (WASA) for the year 2024, held on January 11, 2025, at Effurun Barracks in Warri, Delta State.
Addressing the event as the Special Guest of Honour, Major General Abdussalam highlighted the Division’s achievements in combating illegal bunkering and economic sabotage, which have led to improved oil production and relative peace in the Niger Delta Region (NDR).
He assured that the Division would maintain its efforts to further enhance oil production for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Commending the Commander of the 63 Brigade, officers, and soldiers, the GOC noted that WASA serves as a platform to boost troop morale by celebrating cultural diversity.
He also praised the participation of other security agencies, underscoring the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s philosophy of fostering a well-motivated, combat-ready force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties in a joint and multi-agency environment.
Major General Abdussalam also lauded the Commanding Officer of the 3 Battalion for initiating a Museum project at the barracks, which he formally imaugurated.

In his welcome address, the Commander of the 63 Brigade, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, expressed gratitude for the GOC’s unwavering support, attributing the Brigade’s success to the Division’s backing.
He also thanked friends and supporters of the Brigade for their continuous encouragement.
The Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, praised the military’s collaborative efforts with other security agencies in the region, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence in the state.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Nigerian Army for peace and security in the NDR and the country at large.
The celebration featured various events, including cultural dances, a callisthenics display, tug of war, local cuisine showcases, a beating of retreat, and the lighting of a bonfire to herald the New Year.
The highlight was the commissioning of the museum and the presentation of awards to outstanding personnel.
