The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has affirmed that the ongoing operations against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region are achieving their intended goals, as indicated by an increase in the terminal factor.
According to Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Major General Abdussalam said that the Division would maintain this progress.

He spoke during a courtesy visit by Major General Jamil Sarham (retired), CEO of New Guard Security and Consultancy Services Limited, at the Division’s Headquarters in Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.
He said that the government had set a target to increase daily oil production to 2 million barrels per day, a task that he emphasized must be met.
He noted that the Division was fully committed to this mandate and had launched several operations to ensure its achievement.
“We started with Operation CHANNEL SWEEP around Imo River, effectively managing over 20 million litres of stolen crude,” he stated.
He also mentioned Operation LINES SWEEP, aimed at clearing critical areas of the Trans Niger Pipelines, where several illegal connections were identified and dismantled, and illegal products were seized.
The GOC reported ongoing operations within the Division’s Area of Responsibility, which include the destruction of illegal artisanal refineries, the confiscation of stolen products, and numerous arrests.
He noted that Operation RIVER SHIELD is currently underway around the Imo River, alongside Operation CRUDE HUNT, both recording significant successes.
He credited the cooperation of private security companies (PSCs) and the intelligence from local communities for enhancing the Division’s operations.
However, he warned against complacency, stressing the need to remove any “bad eggs” to sustain progress.
During the visit, Major General Sarham commended the GOC’s efforts, noting the positive impact on oil production in the region.
He emphasized the role of private security companies as force multipliers and enablers in safeguarding critical national infrastructure, as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) from the National Security Adviser’s office.
Sarham also praised the infrastructural developments in Port Harcourt Barracks and urged continued efforts against illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta Region.
The meeting was attended by representatives from PINL, Project Management Office, and Tatita Security Services Nigeria Limited, and concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
