Former Governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Engr Gbenga Daniel, has written a letter to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, requesting the suspension of his monthly pension and allowances.
The amount in question is N676,376.95 (gross), which he has been receiving as a former executive governor of Ogun State.
In his letter, Senator Gbenga Daniel explained that he was making this request in line with his conscience, moral principles, and ethical code, which prohibited receiving double emoluments.
As a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who was previously a State Governor, he said he believed he should not be entitled to pension and allowances from the state.
It is worth noting that Senator Gbenga Daniel was inaugurated as a member of the 10th National Assembly, along with other elected senators and members of the House of Representatives, on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023.
Senator Gbenga Daniel emphasized that since leaving office in 2011, he had not received any welfare packages, including medical, furniture, or transportation benefits.
