“Ga fili, ga doki”, transliterated “See horse, see field” was the response by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1998 when he was asked by journalists how prepared he was for the Februaey 19, 1999 presidential poll, which he eventually won.
The disposition and statement by supporters of former Ekiti State governor, Engineer Segun Oni who converged on the PDP National Secretariat on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, to procure, on his behalf, the governorship form for next year’s election, seemed to sum up the same message or response by Obasanjo in 1998.
The team was led by Hon. Yemi Arokodare, a former member, House of Representatives (2003-2007 and Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission (2015-2021).
Perhaps, to demonstrate readiness and the urgency to take the bull by the horns in the humongous task of rescuing Ekiti, Engineer Segun Oni led others as the first aspirant to pick the party’s nomination form.
Arokodare called on PDP members to do it: vote to make Asiwaju Segun Oni the party’s standard bearer in next year’s governorship election.
He said “Segun Oni is ready,” while “Ekiti is waiting.” That was the kernel of the speech he delivered on the occasion of the procurement of the nomination firm.
Read him: “To the glory of the Almighty God and, on behalf of our Principal, Chief Olusegun Adebayo Oni, we have come to pick the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nomination Form to express his firm and profound interest to contest and win the party’s primaries and emerge victorious at the governorship election in 2022.
“The people of Ekiti State and party members have been anticipating this epochal moment, which officially validates the interest of Chief Segun Oni in the governorship race, and commences another graceful journey to serve the people of Ekiti State.
“The message of Ekiti people to the PDP is very loud and clear: ‘Segun Oni we know; Segun Oni we want; give us Segun Oni as your candidate and we will do the rest – we shall use our votes to deliver and usher-in a PDP-led government in Ekiti state.’
“Today, anyone can visit Ekiti State to do a survey and general assessment: the civil servants are waiting; pensioners are waiting; farmers are waiting; traders are waiting; women are waiting; the youths are waiting; people living with disabilities are waiting; even the men are waiting; everyone is waiting for the emergence of Segun Oni, as the candidate of the PDP, to elect and crown as the next governor of the state. It is going to be a movement like no other.
“The people of Ekiti State once tasted the administration of Chief Segun Oni (2007 – 2010), and, for them, it is still the best experience in terms of a people-driven government, good governance and open government.
