● Alleged extortion video fallout as varsity vows “zero tolerance for reputational damage”
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti has suspended two students for allegedly cyberbullying the institution’s suspended Students’ Union Government president, James Iyanuoluwa Adio, by leaking his private affairs online.
The suspensions were announced Friday in a statement signed by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tajudeen Opoola.
The affected students are Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel.
–“Conspired after financial demands failed”–
According to the university, the duo conspired to publish Adio’s private matters online after he allegedly failed to meet their financial demands. Management said the action
“constitutes conduct capable of damaging the institution’s reputation.”
The students have been directed to proceed on immediate suspension pending the outcome of investigations.

The case is tied to a wider scandal. Adio was suspended last week alongside a Deputy Director of Student Affairs over allegations of extortion. He was accused of indirect involvement in the illegal collection of ₦1,000 from first-year students for practical sessions, with about ₦700,000 reportedly traced to his personal account.
Following Adio’s suspension, a private video allegedly involving the former SUG president circulated widely on social media. The clip drew public attention and prompted the National Association of Nigerian Students to intervene.
Investigations into the cyberbullying claims are ongoing as FUOYE moves to contain reputational fallout from both the extortion allegations and the leaked video.
