Uncertainty is growing over Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara’s political future after he angrily walked out of the APC screening venue in Abuja on Sunday.
Fubara arrived at the Plateau State Governors Lodge, the venue for the APC screening committee, around 3:15 p.m. but left almost immediately, fueling speculation that he was not screened.
The committee, dominated by members of the party’s National Working Committee, is vetting aspirants ahead of the party’s processes.
Speaking to journalists after the exercise, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, who also serves as committee secretary, said the panel had not yet submitted its report.
“Anybody that appears before the screening committee, of course, is necessary as part of the process,” Basiru said.
He stated: “When the committee has completed seeing everybody it is supposed to see, it will sit down and come up with reports on the screening. As at now, there’s no report.”
Fubara’s abrupt exit has intensified questions about his standing in the APC and his prospects for retaining the Rivers governorship ticket.
