Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has commended the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and affiliate unions in the state for resolving disputes through dialogue, saying the approach has sustained industrial harmony.
In a May Day message on May 1, 2026, Fubara said the peace in workplaces across the state reflects the maturity of labour leadership. He urged unions to keep dialogue open and maintain progressive industrial relations.
The governor thanked civil servants for their role in the state’s development and said their welfare would remain a priority. He said rehabilitation of the State Secretariat Complex was ongoing to improve working conditions and boost productivity.
Fubara said civil servants had kept schools, hospitals and other services running over the past 35 months despite political tensions.
“Despite political storms, you did not down tools. Our schools did not shut. Our hospitals did not close. That is because you chose service over strife,” he said.
He added that salaries had been paid promptly each month and pensions were being cleared, with a commitment that no retiree would be left behind.
Acknowledging rising living and transport costs, Fubara said workers had remained committed to the state and pledged that his administration would not betray that trust.
