Fubara denies defection rumours, reaffirms membership of APC

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed reports that he defected from the All Progressives Congress, saying he remains a member of the ruling party.

Speaking Wednesday during an inspection tour of the newly completed General Hospital and remodelled Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obiakpor Local Government Area, Fubara said he had not left the APC despite widespread speculation.

“I know that there have been a lot of drama in the media; one story or another. I am a member of the All Progressives Congress and nothing has changed,” he said. “I’ve not gone anywhere; I’m still a member of the APC and I remain a member. What is important is supporting the overall interest of the party.”

The governor was conducted round the facilities by Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu. He said both projects were conceived to address gaps in the state’s health sector.

Fubara recalled that the rehabilitation of the Psychiatric Hospital became urgent after a visit revealed broader health needs in the area. He said the lack of a general hospital had forced residents to rely on the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, which is far from the community.

“Today, to the glory of God, we can see that the project is already completed. It is not 95 percent complete, it is a hundred percent completed,” he said.

He added that the administration’s focus remains on delivering projects that directly impact residents.
