Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has acknowledged Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as the political figure who discovered and supported his rise to power.

Fubara dedicated his “Man of the Year” award to Wike, describing him as a mentor and a key figure in his emergence as governor.

Speaking at the New Telegraph Award and Dinner Night in Lagos, Fubara reflected on leadership, political pressures, and the need for compromise to maintain peace in the state.

He emphasised that his decision to adopt a more conciliatory approach, which critics describe as “weakness,” was a deliberate strategy to ensure stability and survival amid months of political tension.

Fubara dedicated the award to Wike, saying, “He discovered me, and that discovery gave me this platform”.

The gesture comes amid signs of easing tensions between Fubara and Wike, following mediation by President Bola Tinubu.

Fubara emphasised the importance of compromise in leadership, saying, “Weakness is a virtue” when it promotes harmony.

Fubara’s comments highlight the complexities of politics and leadership, where compromise and reconciliation are essential for maintaining peace and stability.
