The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has partnered with the Nigeria Police Force to address persistent traffic gridlock on the Niger bridges connecting Onitsha and Asaba.
In a statement, Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer Federal Road Safety Corps Headquarters, Abuja Olusegun Ogungbemide said the collaboration involves the Anambra and Delta State Police Commands and was finalized after a critical meeting among key officials, including Anambra Sector Commander Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, Anambra Police Commissioner CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, and Delta Police Commissioner CO BS Oluwafemi.
Key measures to ease traffic during the festive season (December 18, 2024 – January 10, 2025) include Removal of checkpoints on the Head Bridge, Mobile surveillance units at the Second Niger Bridge, Dismantling police checkpoints on the Delta side of the Old Niger Bridge and Joint deployment of officers for traffic control on both bridges.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the partnership, emphasizing its importance in ensuring smooth vehicular movement and safety during the busy holiday period.
He also urged motorists to cooperate fully with traffic management personnel and adhere to road regulations.
