President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Prof. Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Prof. Is-haq Oloyede when his second term ends on 31 July 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Aina’s link to JAMB goes back to his National Youth Service Corps year. He served at the Board during NYSC, where he gained early experience in national admissions and data-driven processes. That period shaped his long-term focus on examination reforms and systems optimisation.
Today, he returns to lead the same institution he first worked with as a young graduate.
Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He holds a BEng in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, UK, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
With over 15 years of post-graduate experience, he has consulted for NECO, NABTEB, and several state ministries of education. His expertise covers ICT systems, examination integrity, digital transition, and operational reform.
At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering. At 40 in July, he will become JAMB’s youngest Registrar.
He is a member of COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Speaking after his elevation to professor, Aina said, “I think hard work, but I think beyond hard work, I think also smart work. You know, it is not just about working hard, you need to work smart.”
President Tinubu said he expects Aina to build on the reforms recorded under Oloyede using his technical and institutional experience.
