A former Speaker of the House of Representatives Abdulsabur Oladimeji Bankole has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former lawmaker had met with the Acting National Chairman of the Party who is also the Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, along with the Jigawa state Governor Alhai Muhammad Badaru Abubakar in Abuja, according to acteport by Global Times Nigeria.
In 2002, Bankole was elected to the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while representing the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency of Ogun State.
He was Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Finance while Aminu Bello Masari was Speaker, (Farouk Lawan was Chairman of the committee).
He was also previously Chairman of the House Committee on Land Transport.
Other committees he sat in were those on Defence, Internal Affairs and Banking, and Currency.
Bankole was re-elected in April 2007.
He considered his legislative interests to be those related to defence and finance.
He was elected Speaker in 2007 after Patricia Etteh was removed over a furniture contract scandal.
