Former Alliance for Democracy [AD] National Chairman, Comrade Adamu Song, says he is backing Mohammed Hayatu-Deen for president in 2027, citing the banker’s detribalised outlook and experience in tackling Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

Hayatu-Deen, former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group [NESG] and ex-banker, is seeking the presidency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress [ADC]. His campaign has focused on insecurity and economic instability.

In a statement on Monday, Song described Hayatu-Deen as a unifying leader with the capacity to drive investment, job creation, and economic liberalisation. He pointed to Hayatu-Deen’s record in both the private and public sectors, including his tenure as Managing Director of the Northern Nigeria Development Corporation [NNDC].

“Hayatu-Deen’s leadership and vision are essential assets for revitalising Nigeria’s economy,” Song said. “He has the ability to build relationships across Nigeria’s diverse regions and can bridge ethnic, religious, and political divides.”

Song, also former General Secretary of NUPENG, argued that Hayatu-Deen’s technocratic background positions him to shift Nigeria from a consumption-driven to a production-based economy. He added that Hayatu-Deen could reform intelligence coordination, establish a dedicated terrorism court, and prioritise strong institutions over “strongman” leadership.

He urged opposition parties to unite behind a candidate with a clear purpose, warning that coalitions without shared goals would fail.

“The 2027 election is a critical turning point,” Song said. “Nigerians must seize the opportunity for transformational leadership.”

Song concluded by calling on party delegates to back Hayatu-Deen, saying his integrity and track record make him the most suitable candidate to restore stability and public confidence.
