Nigeria’s Folashade Adekeye has been appointed Chairperson of the Forum of Directors of Oil & Gas Training & Vocational Education Institutes under the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO).
According to a statement by NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, “Adekeye, Director of the NNPC Academy, succeeds Mr. Abdelkader Guenone, Managing Director of the Algerian Petroleum Institute (API).”
The appointment was made during the Forum’s second meeting in Abuja over the weekend.
With over 30 years of experience, Adekeye will collaborate with her peers from APPO member countries to address challenges such as skill gaps, infrastructure deficiencies, and funding issues in the organization’s training institutions.
In his keynote address, NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari, represented by Executive Vice President (Business Services) Inuwa Danladi, highlighted the necessity of standardized education and training to meet the evolving demands of the oil and gas industry.
APPO Secretary General, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration among member countries to establish Oil & Gas Centres of Excellence across Africa.
Dr. Ibrahim stressed that understanding the Forum’s challenges would help APPO member countries provide solutions for project funding, technology adoption, and the creation of the Africa Energy Bank.
He concluded that such collaboration would ensure energy accessibility, affordability, and sustainability, thereby strengthening African economies and improving the prosperity of its citizens.
