Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has announced the deactivation of her Twitter account.
This was consequent upon Nigerian Government’s suspension on the operations of the microblogging site in the country.
The wife of the president tweeted late night, on Friday, that she was deactivating her account for now, giving no reason for her action.
Read her: “I will be deactivating my Twitter account for now. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
She had immediately proceeded to deactivate her Twitter account where she had over one million followers.
Mrs Buhari, who joined Twitter on February 2016.
The first lady had been active on the social media, deploying the platforms in promoting her activities and at times in criticizing government’s policies.
Her action is generating a rash of reactions by Nigerians.
In a statement on Friday, Nigeria’s Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, had announced the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria, citing persistent use of the platform for activities that were capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence for the decision.
