Fire has razed a booster station belonging to telecommunications company MTN at the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State.
The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
The MTN booster station is beside the Faculty of Nursing in UI.
Akinyinka said the agency’s personnel received a distress call about the fire incident about 4 a.m. on Saturday through a phone call from one Akinoso.
Akinyinka said the personnel led by ACFS Olubunmi promptly deployed officers in the scene and arrived at the place on time.
“On arrival, we met a Mikano Electrical Generator and Board on fire,” he stated.
Akinyinka said that the agency’s personnel, in collaboration with a team of fire marshals at the University of Ibadan, put off the fire.
He said the fire affected the Mikano generator and board while other telecommunication gadgets were saved.
The general manager attributed the cause of the fire to electricity surge.
