The Minister of State for Labour, Mr. Festus Keyamo, on Saturday said tthe Federal Government would, on Monday, inaugurate the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), committees to handle the selection of the 1,000 persons per Local Government Area (LGA) for its special public works programme.
There are 774 Local Government Areas in the country, indicating that the initiative is targeting 774,000 youths.
The inauguration, according to a statement signed by Mr. Olua Davidson, Special Adviser to the Minister, said the inuaguration would be done in Abuja by the minister.
He said the committees were made up of 20 members each comprising the following: chairman, vice chairman, secretary (the NDE State Coordinator), three Representatives of traditional rulers from the three Senatorial Districts of the State (members), one representative of the state governor as (member)
Market Woman Leader (member), Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in that State or his representative (member).
Others are chairman of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in that State or his representative (member), chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in that State or his representative (member), six representatives from three recognized youth organisations in that State.
According to him, there would be two each from each of the three Senatorial Districts (one male & one female members),
one representative from a recognized Civil Society Organisation (CSO) in that State – (member), two representatives from Institutions/Stakeholders representing interests peculiar to that State (members).
He, however, said that as a result of the COVID-19 guidelines, the chairmen, vice-chairmen and state coordinators of National Directorate of Employment (NDE) would join the inauguration by virtual means from their different locations.
According to him, they would represent other members of the Committees.
“All chairmen, vice-chairmen and state coordinators of NDE would receive meeting IDs and password with which to join virtually,” he indicated in the statement.
