The Federal Government, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have launched into high-level talks in Abuja to resolve the crisis over hikes in petroleum pump price and electricity tariffs.

The meeting, which is holding in the Presidential Villa, came on the heels of last week’s meeting between the duo that ended without a resolution of contending issues.

Both parties have to reach a consensus in order to avert a nationwide strike by the labour unions.  Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Mr Boss Mustapha and minister of Labour and Employment Dr Chris Ngige, while opening the meeting on Thursday, appealed to NLC and TUC to engage in healthy conversations with government with a view to bringing about lasting solutions to the problems at hand.

Those at the meeting with Mustapha and Ngige are ministers of power Saleh Maman, information Alhaji Lai Mohammed, minister of state for petroleum resources, Chief Timipre Sylva and minister of state labour and employment, Mr Festus Keyamo.
