The Federal Government has condemned the deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, where armed men killed a school official and abducted 25 students in a late-night raid.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Bola Tinubu had directed security and intelligence agencies to immediately launch a coordinated operation to locate and rescue the abducted students, while ensuring that those responsible for the attack were apprehended and prosecuted.

According to the Minister, the President considered the safety of citizens—particularly schoolchildren—a core duty of the Nigerian State and had vowed that the government would not rest until the girls were safely reunited with their families.

“The government condemns the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty,” Idris said.

He stressed that military, police, and intelligence units have been given “clear and firm directives” to rescue the children and neutralise the criminal elements behind the assault.

The Minister added that the Federal Government was intensifying efforts to strengthen national security systems, including a recalibration of military and policing capabilities to improve rapid response to threats.

He also noted that Nigeria was deepening regional security collaboration through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force in order to curb cross-border terrorism and criminal activities.

The government extended heartfelt sympathy to the families of the abducted schoolgirls and the relatives of the slain Vice-Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, assuring them that every necessary resource is being deployed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Local sources reported that bandits stormed the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area late Sunday night.

Witnesses said the attackers encountered no resistance, killing the Vice-Principal before rounding up several students and escaping with them into nearby forests—a development that has triggered widespread fear and outrage across the region.

Authorities in Kebbi State, alongside federal security operatives, are expected to provide updates as rescue operations progress.
