Fear grips police top command as Bishi, newly-promoted AIG, dies amid COVID-19 surge

A newly-promoted Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Mr Omololu Bishi is dead.

He died in Lagos on Monday after a brief illness, less than a month after his elevation to the rank of AIG.

His death has caused anxiety in the top echelon of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) amid suspicion and fear that COVID-19 might have been the culprit.

Bishi’s health reportedly worsened on Monday within a few days of taking ill.

He was reportedly taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Bishi was a former Benue State Commissioner of Police.

He was later in charge of Armament.

He was among 13 AIGs appointed by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on December 18, 2020

In the meantime, the late AIG Bishi has been buried. He was buried on Tuesday morning at the Ebony Vault in Lagos.
