The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has publicly named four of its officers detained for allegedly extorting ₦52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.
The officers abandoned their official posts and mounted an illegal traffic stop at Banex Plaza Junction, Wuse II, Abuja, before demanding money from a motorist they did not know was the anti-graft boss.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Monday.

In a follow-up statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, identified the suspects as:
1. ASP Clement Ehigala
2. ASP Sunday Okpe
3. Inspector Samuel Onoja
4. Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel

SP Adeh said: “During the course of the illegal traffic duty, the officers stopped a motorist on the allegation of violating traffic regulations and extorted the sum of N52,000 from him. The victim was subsequently identified as the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).”

Following the complaint, CP Sanusi ordered their immediate arrest. The four officers have been placed on orderly room trial for abandoning their lawful duty posts, conducting unauthorised traffic enforcement, and alleged extortion.
“The Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against the officers in line with established police regulations, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and zero tolerance for misconduct by its personnel,” the statement added.
The incident has sparked fresh outrage over police extortion, especially given that the victim heads the very agency tasked with fighting corruption.
